I really don't like how forums turn all into troll wars lately. Moderators should think of using ban-hammer, again. It's really annoying when I have to skip big parts of text just to read small relevant information in the end of it.

EDIT: Back-seat moderating is so cool.

Have you been doing your part and reporting posts/threads with this problem?

Contributing to the cure or not, wookash does have a point. Things have been going loco lately.

I must admit, I don't read through all the threads in the lounge, though I should, if they don't catch my immediate interest. So, we need you guys to report the posts that offend you, and ONLY those. Lately I've experienced peoples posts being reported, simply because the user himself was frowned upon.

I'm getting tired of seeing constant trolling as well. It seems like with each week there's more and more of it.

I've been thinking of suggesting some sort of "Karma" system like some other forums have. Any user can give another user +1 or -1 karma. Maybe if such feature is given more thought and certain anti-abuse measures are implemented, this could make trolling more punishable and being a "nice guy" would be more rewarding.

We had that system a while ago. Was slightly abused, so it got removed, but I think it should been allowed to stay.

I wonder if it'll do any good at this point. But enough of that, we've had this conversation a million times since. loner, check out the history of this board if you wanna know what went down.

I went through the older posts like you suggested, and it seems that karma system was not a complete failure. Sure there were problems with it, but only because of the flaws in the system, not the idea itself.

Many good ideas were suggested on how to improve it and despite past failures, even some of the admins still supported the idea. It's just nobody wanted to bother improving it anymore and chose to get rid of it completely. At least that's the impression I got after reading through several threads.

Maybe it's worth re-adding this system with fixes and improvements that were suggested in some of those threads. For example, adding a limit on how much/how often you can rate, as well as a limit on karma itself so that it doesn't go below/beyond a certain value (let's say, 50). Numeric value can also be hidden, and instead karma can be shown as colors or pictures.
There are many other suggestions in those older threads that are worth considering.

the system was a good attempt gone wrong.

I've used my moderator functions more in this past week than I have in this past year. Although I was homeless for a few of those months so who's counting, right?

For those of you contributing, intelligent forumers who are not on a straight and narrow path to ban-land, please continue to be helpful by reporting posts which violate the rules.

It doesn't look like reporting is doing much of a job. Quite a number of users are "watched", but other than that nothing really changed. They still whine, bi**h, troll, annoy and act like complete assholes. And not a single one is muted even after they keep trashing up the threads as they did before.

Maybe we should start dishing out higher warnings then. (so they're muted instead of just "watched")

@ point system - I see a flaw here. Trolls will abuse it - giving negative points to forumers whom they dislike.

Sounds fine. But my opinion is rather worthless since I'm not the part of staff. Back-seat moderating isn't what I like to do.

it's forum dynamics. when you have smack content, people will get bored. and boredom leads to trolling those who still try to take the smack seriously.

imho we're past the point where a simple high maintanance shit-shoveling would fix the place up.

Then either go on some serious ban sprees, or work on adding something like that karma system.

I'm going to make a separate poll about this ban hammer thing. I hope it doesn't hurt.

A karma system wouldn't solve anything at all.

actually, it goes for most posts made by the staff it seems.
I guess they're more concerned with voicing their opinion than actually looking at the situation.

I kinda forgot that this forums had rules. lol

Well said. The abortion topic was just asking to be trolled. That's where I got my warning, albeit, still enjoyable. So uh, your point proven.
