Gun interface tests.
« on: July 13, 2010, 03:27:13 pm »
Alright, so im just playing around with this L96A1 sniper rifle ive been creating, but i got stuck between which one looked 'nicer'

images are attached below :

the first image is actually not an accurate representation of the rifle, but somehow it looks more appealing than the latter.

the second one is a(somewhat) direct copy from an image i found over google.

in your opinion id like to know which would you prefer?

Note- the weapons are not at all finished in terms of shading, id like to complete it over the next day if possible.

From: July 13, 2010, 04:06:36 pm

eh alright. i just 'improved' AW2 with a number of changes- shifted the mag housing abit to the front while also extending the magazine height, I also extended the scope length. first post updated.[/s]

Poll redundant. Ill post the finished weapon(s) here.

1. L96A1 (Arctic Warfare)
2. M24 Sniper Weapon System

Might I ask why you hate outlining?

Only outline and size makes difference between Meteor 2 and Soldat. So decide, which game you represent.

i just don't like my weapons to look 'fat' when seen ingame. i take the 'realistic' approach, as compared to the 'cartoony' approach- same reason why i never try to outline my gosteks.

If implemented properly, outlining doesn't make the Interface gfx look either fake or "cartoony". But anyhow it is up to you in in the end...

outlining also limits the amount of details i could put in a weapon 5 pixels wide. I use different shades of black to create some contrast between parts of the weapon, outlines would just make it look worse.

As i said before, precision is what im after. Sure i would give small outlines to bigger (20 pixel) weapons. but weapons smaller than 8 pixels in height- Not a chance.

My favorite is the last one... the other two remind me of MY gun interface modding days...

yo.....I don't agree with you 100% on the no outline weapons...i agree with matt. However, for the actual in game weapons, i don't usually overdo the outline with black. i use dark grey colors etc. but i DO use it for the interface. it would look retard(i think) without liners. as for the actually shape of you guns....

thumbs up on the M24

the l96's. to be honest are mediocre quality(at least in my opinion)

keep it up

please. You do not understand anything ive said over the last few posts(even if it was a looong time ago). Outlining, is NOT my style. You can try however you want to convince me that outlining's is better for me, but you'd get the same answer- No, its MY style of modding.

Hey, i'm all okay with you style. if its the way you like, its fine :)

i guess my post was sorta addressed towards matth...

also, i was just giving an opinion, not flaming your style.

no hard feelings, i wasn't trying to imply that your style suks or its abnormal ;D

as for the topic age.....well i haven't been here a while and i forgot to check the topic age.
