Japanese - Almost fluently - i live in the imigration japanese district, in Brazil. My gf is japanese, its sooooooooo easy to practice that way. Ima self-learning on:

Heisig(kanji textbook) method; +++++++
Assimil(textbook+audio=shadowing); ++++++
Genki(textbook+audio=shadowing); +++
FSI(textbook+audio=shadowing); +
Pimsleur(audio);  +++
Michel Thomas(audio);  +++
Rosetta Stone(srs); +
Anki(srs ipod touch); ++++++
smart.fm(web srs). ++++++
japanesepod101(20gb!!podcast every fukin day)

+ means what I use mostly on the week. I don't use to frequent language forum/classes cuz they are waste of my life, but i study, like, 2 hours a day, every-bloody-hell-day. I can read the daily 2000 kanji and understand loads of conversations, as like mangas and animes. Ppl says u need 10 years of study to get fluence, I study that s**t for the last four years via selfteaching only.

Ima english native(till 6yo) so i can manage very well, but my british accent is gone ;<. I practice the queen's accent by the shadowing method(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=130bOvRpt24). I got the Lord of the Rings - BBC audio from 1956 - unabridge(word by word!) (http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5048596/J_R_R_Tolkien_-_The_Audiobook_Collection).
I use one chapter per day, which is almost an hour per day. By the rest I just insult ppl on internet to get my slang high.

Unfortunately, my thoughts are half english half brazilian(pt), so i get confused sometimes ;<

I srly gave up on learning any other language else japanese, cuz I already know english a bit, so I can insult every1 in the eastern world. Don't wanna learn stupid languages as polak, deutsch, italian, french, spanish and so on.

@Fulro
Fuck you julk. No offense.
I thought that was the true purpose of that shit, show the way to illiterated punks, like you, to learn new shits. I didnt even mentioned how to study japanese or a shitload of text, just what material i use. Btw, for the begin i started for fun using Rosetta Stone, Pimsleur, Michel Thomas dayly for a year or so. Later i got on readings.

@Espadon
I cant rly understand most of the meaning of mandarin/cantonese, but these are the most beatiful languages in the world so far. Sadly the mostestoveruberflowness hard to learn. I would like to learn someday.

@Biohazard: Actually, the hardest language to learn currently is Arabic, I've known people who studied it for no less than a decade and still couldn't get around in Arab countries so well.

Does pig-latin count?

Greek & Latin : without it, English would be Deutsch.
English : if you find someone else who is also fluent, not in writing but in speech, let me know! Articulate conversation can be very hard to come by even in English-speaking countries!
Japanese : rather fluent depending on the complexity of a sentence, and if I remember the word I'm after (within context & formality). If I only knew of as many words for instances as I do in English, I would be set. Luckily, you can learn [and remember!] a lot by learning the history and construction of a lot of words - similar to how English can be easily understood if you understand the Greek and Latin components that build the words.

Would love to learn Cantonese and Mandarin at least half as much as I grasp Japanese. Ive always loved Asian languages for their phonetic and holistic/heiroglyphic structure, and seem to me one of the most natural systems of verbal expression Ive ever examined. Chinese is so much more dynamic than Japanese, its very intimidating to learn sometimes.
I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn’t work that way. So I stole a bike and then asked for forgiveness.

heiroglyphic structure, and seem to me one of the most natural systems of verbal expression Ive ever examined

But unfortunately the lack of systematic structure also hinders literacy and the language itself from growing. Too much of Chinese is arbitrary.
