Barrett - cancel bullet camera
« on: March 05, 2011, 05:36:26 pm »
A small (and hopefully easy) fix which would make many snipers happy.

WHAT:
A quick way to cancel out of bullet camera when using Barrett with zoom, instead of waiting until the bullet hits something.

HOW:
Press "fire" button when your camera is following the bullet to focus camera back on your soldier.
-----------
To prevent Barrett from accidentally firing again (in case server is using a WM with 0 start up time, or if player decides to switch to a different weapon (though IMHO switching should cancel bullet camera too)) - tapping "fire" button should NOT fire your weapon if your camera is focused on the bullet. You would need to tap twice - one time to cancel out of bullet camera, and second time to fire again.

If you unprone and prone it does the same thing, so you dont need to click fire. Never had this problem, and I'm a barret whore who loves the bullet camera.

But not every new player knows that, it's much more intuitive to just tap the fire button.

Also, I noticed that if you stay prone - you can re-zoom after shots faster. If you prone and unprone - for some reason there's a noticeably longer delay before you can zoom again. It seems that it has something to do with reload (I mean the between-shots reload, not clip reload). If I prone-unprone right after shot - the delay is short (though still longer than if I stayed prone). If I prone-unprone when reload almost finishes - it takes almost 3 seconds before I can zoom in again.

This change coupled with my suggestion I just made here -> http://forums.soldat.pl/index.php?topic=39773.msg487132#msg487132

would make very good changes to the gameplay.

I agree, it's one of the turn off's on the Barrett, and does limit its functionality at actual sniping.

A better solution rather than double tap would be to make the camera only follow the bullet while holding down the button, so you can release the key to stop following the camera, or hold it down to see where the bullet goes.

Shard, Dusty: You probably never tried sniping on long open maps, especially INF maps.
I often had cases when I shoot, watch my bullet fly and then suddenly notice enemies rushing towards me just one screen away. I switch to my LAW and then guess what? I have to waste a few more precious moments to unprone, sit down and only then shoot, because the camera was still busy with the bullet. :|

Yeah, I heard that supposedly tapping a nade or jet button cancels it - tried both, none of them work for me.

Moving the cursor during bullet cam would instantly cancel it?

you can fire the law from prone, so if you double tap prone I dont see how it makes a difference, and yes, I do play long inf, and yes I do snipe, and have never had that problem. It really dont see anything wrong with how it is now.

This would cause people with twitchy hands to lose their calculations if they were sniping by bullet cam.
The original idea is better.
