Foreign Music
« on: May 14, 2011, 05:57:07 pm »
We all know english music is pretty freakin' awesome and we all listen to stuff some 80' rocks to today's modern rock, metal, rap, hip hop, r&b etc. But sometimes I like to kick back and listen to something in a different, of course in a language you know otherwise it'd be pointless.

I didn't think there was any persian rap until I started looking. This topic will be a place to put your quicktime/youtube links of music in your language. Keep in mind, this topic excludes English because we all know english music. I'll start us off:

Why should race, state or segregation be relevant, when the language of music is unifying in itself ?

respected polish rock bands

80's
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkFGwQz_uqM kult
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLSJCeS3Xv4 dzem
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4CSdX6RaFE lady pank
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vh6V5kxPW_o perfect

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXf5lNKpicQ republika
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ABk87ujEn8 lombard

90's
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=god5zmGju2k myslovitz
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-03ePM1GM8 o.n.a.                         \
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL2kcA2X_CQ hey                               } one of the best female rock vocalists in the world imo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EOyDYnEhvQ edyta bartosiewicz     /
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PikyS4XQXD4 raz dwa trzy

modern:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mj3K3wXcWl4 - coma

and that's it i guess, not a fan of that new wave of polish rock bands

bonus:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzACDJCfQvs - czeslaw niemen - this could be polish national anthem, probably the most known and respected polish song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsVG-IOpMAI - jacek kaczmarski - close to same^
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_nNeAj6ghU - marek grechuta - also very respected

80's and 90's in polish rock are legendary, most of 20-50 year olds get a strong nostalgic feeling when hearing the songs i mentioned. Music helped a lot with fighting with the communist oppression as the lyrics often contained hidden anti-systemic messages and gave a strong kick of will to act.

i'd be very glad if others made something similar with music of their countries, there are musical jewels in every country so im always interested but it's hard to search for them.

ahh felt great to remind myself of all those songs

Nice music, also thanks for reminding me of Czeslaw Spiewa, i love that music.

On a related note, this region was rich with all kinds of musical artists, for an example, check the wikipedia article.
Currently an enormous part of the music is crappy pop/turbo-folk music, but there are still some awesome bands in the post-2k period..

@ Mittsu- Yep, if some singer's name ends with -ic or -ich, they probably have roots from here.
If you heard for Vlatko Stefanovski, probably one of the best living guitar virtuosos, he's from Macedonia.
And im pretty sure that some artists in Poland made a tribute album to one of the former record labels from ex-yu.

Also, Manu Chao anyone?

It's K-Pop, so it's actually Korean, although they did put out a Japanese version of this song but it doesn't sound as catchy. And I love the music and I can't understand anything they say lol

Japanese:
Aya - Over Night (rock; love this one <3) <-- err, completely forgot it's in english..
Yoko Kanno - Cream (rap/trip-hop, I believe)
Orange Range - *~Asterisk~
Home Made Kazoku - Home Sweet Home
桜高軽音部 - Kagayake!GIRLS

Chinese:
Mark Zhao/Color Band [赵又延/Color Band] - Rogue Justice [无赖正义]

Music Quest -> language 'russian'
If its not pop, its great.
lol. Most of the russian music fails, sadly. :/ I'll throw in a few half-decent songs that I happen to have:

Russian:
Hi-Fi - Ah Mee Ljubeelee (pure pop)
Bi-2 - Zazhigat' (rockish metalish popish thingy?)
Tatu - L'judi Invaleedy (pop rock thingy?)

Ukrainian:
Nemo - Neznayomij Brat

German:
Rammstein - Engel
(yep.. as you might've guessed, my collection of german music is nearly nonexistent) oh wait!
Gabber Piet - Hakke en Zage

French:
Miyamoto Emiri x Solita - Tokyo et Paris
Kate Ryan - Desenchantee
Alizee - J'en Ai Marre

Sorry for the amount of pop in here, but I'm just not a fan of metal or classic/hard rock. :/ There was a spanish metal/post-rock song that I wanted to throw in here, but unfortunately I couldn't find any vids of it. It's called Mira Mama by Exxasens (album: Polaris), if you're interested. Here's another one of their tracks (no vocals though): Polaris
