Terraria

Get this game already!
It's pure win, especially if you liked soldat and/or minecraft. It's a bit like 2D minecraft, but without the things that pissed you off, like no properly challenging bosses, the need to switch from pickaxe to spade all the time and no "craft all" option. I could go on telling you why you should play it, but i'll just say that the second time i launched the game i forgot to sleep.

Graphics are top notch, but I'm just not a fan of the "Randomly generated worlds" idea.

how come? It just removes the ability to predict the precise locations of some things based on previous playthroughs and adds a bit of replayability

If it has to be rpg I prefer games like Metroids, GBA Castlevanias and Cavestory. I think it's more competitive that way. With like speedrunning, no-damage and 100% challenges. Is it just me?

dnmr, I actually just played with people online for like the fourth time (and previously, I dooped on single player until I had the molten items set thing..). I mean, buying an inventory full of dynamite and blowing up tunnels to the underworld/blowing up people that don't watch out, hehe. Priceless. Minecraft just irritates me. Redundant or something.. purposeless-feeling. Last time I played minecraft, it turned into sitting at the bottom of the map grinding a 4x3 tunnel looking for iron to finish a never-ending minecart track that made my never-ending quest for more iron more easily accessible. obviously a pointless objective.

simply put, MINECRAFT FEELS, on average, SO GIMMICKY

Would Minecraft be better if there was some overall defined goal or end? I don't think so.

In sandbox games you make your own fun. The problem with Minecraft is it is very monotonous and consuming and takes a lot of investment to create anything of significance. It's gimmicks are not bad ones, they just don't add up to much of a rewarding experience

Terraria is a ripoff of Minecraft, I think anyone can see that, that's not to say it's a bad game or that it isn't fun. It just manages to objectively water down the mechanics of Minecraft and make them easier and more enjoyable in comparrison, but at heart it owes its entire concept and improvement over Minecraft to Minecraft itself, as all ripoffs do.

you could just as well say that any 3rd person shooter owes its entire everything to wolfenstein 3D or whatever and RTS's owe the concept to dune 2. Are you saying nobody should care about the majority of latest games because they are ripoofs?

You missed my point considerably, either that or you are being plain stupid.

In Minecraft you can craft an axe at a work bench and cut down a tree and make a house out of wood blocks and then craft a pickaxe and dig into the ground and find a dungeon where you can kill slimes with a sword.

In Terraria you can craft an axe at a work bench and cut down a tree and make a house out of wood blocks and then craft a pickaxe and dig into the ground and find a dungeon where you can kill slimes with a sword. - In 2D.

Whereas Wolfenstein 3D is the only game where you are in a Nazi castle fortress killing Nazi zombies, looking for treasure and fight Hitler in a mech suit.

hey dnmr what is with all the stoopid!?
You failed to understand that terraria is a ripoff of minecraft, you are stoopid. In minecraft you can make your own fun but in terraria, a ripoff, you can only make your own watered-down 2D fun which is not as fun as minecraft 3D fun because you are stoopid. 2 < 3 did you not know that because you stoopid? Minecraft came first, you have no right to touch terraria you stoopid. Grab that stoopid donate it to jews, you stoopid.

Sorry if I missed some important points, but it's kinda hard to find them amongst all the trolling and bashing.

Minecraft - focus on building. Terraria - focus on fighting monsters and dungeon crawling. Both have similarities but both have significant differences. Seems kinda stupid to argue which is better. It's like trying to compare Minecraft to Ace of Spades and call AoS a ripoff. Also, in case you forgot, Minecraft is essentially a ripoff of Infiniminer, yet no one ever mentions that.

If none of that has convinced you, fine. Let's agree that Terraria is a ripoff. So what? Fact is - it's a fun game, and it has things that Minecraft doesn't have. There are many other games that are just like that. Take Resident Evil and Silent Hill series for example. Or all the jrgps and MMORPGs. They're just as much of ripoffs as Terraria.

Troll less please, don't ruin the thread.

----------

On topic:
Fun game, I really like how it's leaning more towards an action rpg with all the different gear and monsters it has. My only concern is that it might still not be enough to satisfy me. :/ I got bored of minecraft once I realised that there really is nothing to see underground other than caves, caves and more caves, and I fear that the same thing will happen to Terraria once I fight all types of monsters and check out all types of biomes. I do hope the devs will keep adding more content though.

Btw, anyone wanna coop? It's really getting hard to explore late-game dungeons alone. :S

In red alert you build buildings, collect resources, make units and kill the other guy, in age of empires you build buildings, collect resources, make units and kill the other guy, in any other strategy game you build buildings, collect resources, make units and kill the other guy.

If you're saying that first person shooters are also not ripoffs of each other, then what if there was a clone of minecraft, but with tools and block types that do not resemble what you're used to? Say if the setting was planet Derp and you would be mining derpinium instead of iron ore. Would you then call it a minecraft ripoff but, with different pixels?

I still can't see your point about this whole thing though. Does it make terraria inferior to minecraft just because they share some game mechanics? Also, have you played the game yourself?

I havent and I can't touch the game, but at least from videos it looks really fun.
And, uh, almost every game concept is already made, no doubt for that. Every game is a bit ripoff of others, when it actually isn't. Ideas are just being refined.

 It needs better sounds although.

At no point did I say that being a ripoff made it inferior. I did not say that being a ripoff made it a worse game.

Stop being such a fanboy about it. We get it, you like the game, you made a thread to tell everyone about it and you'll defend it to the death. I haven't played it because I'm not interested in it but I still know about the game and I still have an opinion about the game. I know people who play it and love it and yet all of them acknowledge that there's a huge number of things in it that are copied directly from Minecraft. It is a ripoff of Minecraft, deal with it.
