What no Skyrim?
« on: November 23, 2011, 02:38:12 pm »
No ones made a Skyrim topic yet. Forum I am dissapoint.

Who's got it then? Got the collectors edition for my 18th. I'm loving it so far. I think the leveling system has been over simplified. The addition of perks and shouts mitigates that though.

Last year, I dreamt I was pissing at a restroom, but I missed the urinal and my penis exploded.

Fus Ro Dah!

The game is hilarious. Medievalist fantasy has bored me to hell for a decade, but everything about Skyrim being so serious and deep makes it come off as satire, especially when compared to the horrendous AI and gameplay.

I too thought that was the reason why no one made a thread about it. :P

Anyway, I haven't gotten too far into the game but that's my impression of Skyrim so far:

The bad:
- Horrid interface and some key binding bugs (damn consoles ruined PC games..).
- Distant landscapes look absolutely horrid when looking down from the top of a hill.
- World keeps getting smaller and smaller compared to Fallout 3 and previous Elder Scrolls games.
(at least the first 2 issues can be fixed with mods)

The good:
Despite the issues mentioned above, it's a great step forward from Oblivion in pretty much every aspect.
+ Graphics are really nice (especially after you mess around in config files and install a few mods). Flowing water animations are best I've ever seen in games so far.
+ Character animations are a lot better and more convincing.
+ New combat system is much less of a dumb clickfest and allows for many interesting combinations.
+ AI is noticeably better (pathfinding could still use some work though).
+ Dungeons/forts/camps/caves are more unique and interesting, and ones that are not - they're at least short enough to not make you too bored. Less of a copy/paste compared to Oblivion.

This is how I feel.

Basically Zelda or GTFO.

Tried it at friend's place. I killed a fish with a fire ball and looted a ring from it.

Basically Zelda or GTFO.

Yeah I don't like playing Zelda games because I always wish/pretend Link was really a girl (the face is certainly appropriate and pretty enough) and want to fuck her.

Wait is it really smaller? I heard you can noclip out of the world and go look at Morrowind and Cyrodil. They have most of the landmass rendered for some reason even thought I bet you never see it in game without noclip. DLC maybe?

Well, a few reviews mentioned that, and I got the same impression as well. It seems to take a lot less time to go from one end of the map to the other end. Plus there's a lot of goddamned mountains that often force you to find a way around, so to me freedom of traveling feels a bit more restricted than in Oblivion.
Never heard of landmasses outside Skyrim though, gonna try that tonight.. Would be awesome if they add the remaining provinces though. D:

Seems like doing the others would be the thing to do. I hope they do Elsweyr next. The description sounds too good http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Elsweyr .

One of the most satifiying things to do in Skyrim is to put soul trap on a bow and kill things. Archery seems a lot more powerful then it was in either Morrowind or Oblivion.

Adept. Next game I'll be playing a stealth or mage(not sure) type character on Master(I think that's the highest?). Adept has a nice bit of challenge but it's not frustratingly hard. Good place to start.

I'm playing a bit of a generalised charachter atm, heavy armor ,magicka, dual wielding, archery, sneak attacking, I'll probably end up leveling most of the skills to 100 at some point.

Werewolves are overpowered, provided you can find a few human targets. Seriously fun, but overpowered.

I'm playing a dual-wielding roguish character using sneak bow or dual dagger attacks, sometimes with an added bonus of Fury and Raise Corpse (or whatever the name was) spells. I'm playing on Adept, but certain enemies give me a bit of trouble (bears for example). From what I heard - enemy strength scales with your highest skill, and since my sneak outlevels most of my other skills by about 20 - that might've messed up the difficulty for me. D:

To be honest though, I'd rather play a fist-fighting monk. Hoping someone will mod them in someday. :(

Poor Fallout 3 copy, no guns or explosives, I preffer helicopters instead of dragons and it's boring :<
I never liked the Elder scroll series and I won't because they are constructed on a boring gameplay... Just my opinion and don't think that it's a big deal if no topic was made for this game, it sucks :D

I love this game to death. The amount of detail that went into it is just ridiculous.

When you use dragon shouts in towns, the guards tell you to stop.
The more you use shouts, the more letters you get from couriers telling you where you can find a word wall.
When you drop weapons in towns, guards warn you not to leave dangerous objects laying around, and they fine you if you do it a second time in a certain span of time.
When you drop armor or clothing, every now and then a beggar will approach you and ask if he can keep them.
Factions that you've pissed off will send assassins after you.
You will randomly get held up by thieves. You can choose to let them loot you or battle them.
When dragons are at ~25% health, they will plummet face first into the ground if they are flying at the time, leaving a large trail of disrupted soil behind them as they travel forward about 75 feet.
Someone on the Gamespot forums discovered that if you hold a torch up to a lock for ~45 seconds, it will be easier to pick.

To say the least, it has blown me away so far. I do miss the old-fashioned stats like strength, intellect, etc., but it definitely hasn't stopped me from enjoying Skyrim. Recently I enchanted 4 pieces of armor with -25% destruction mana cost and -25% conjuration mana cost, so now I'm running around with 2 Dremora Lords (they own, by the way), casting expert-level spells (the master-level ones suck, even though Lightning Storm looks like Kamehameha) at 0 mana cost.

My only complaint is that I have to stop playing for a couple weeks while I take my final exams and finish up the semester.

Bloody hell, I didn't even know about half of that. Is the torch thing for real? I guess expanding the metal would make it easier, how about a flame spell...

Yeah, I've been playing it too much and falling behind on college work :/

Yeah I powerleveled smithing to 100, and my next highest skill was 55. It was a bit on an uphill strugle for a while. I think it's more based on level though, but bringing smithing up did give me about 5 extra levels, not to mention the 10 I used for my enchanting perks....Elder dragons are hardcore when your best offensive skill is under 50.

You could play as a Kahjiit if you wanted to maximise damage, Breton if you didn't mind. Khajiit's get +15 unarmed because of claws. I'm not 100% but I bet you could get a 32% bonus with 100 enchant to unarmed damage if you find something to disenchant with said effect and use grand soul gems. If your wearing robes, you could have at least 3 items with that enchantment, I don't know if you can enchant normal clothes yourself.

Yeah, people were confirming it left and right on the forums. My understanding was that someone was going to test the fire spells, but he never got back to us.
