Devlog update (2012-01-01) Too much stuff to fit here
« on: January 01, 2012, 01:12:00 pm »
Hello everyone, and happy new year!

We had more activity in the past week than usual:

TmTgr, added missing translations in soldat config #105.

jrgp started to work on Soldat!

I helped him to setup his Delphi (which took more then 3h) and also helped him with fixing the first bug.
I hope he will continue to work on Soldat :>.

So jrgp added clicking on the "default: 23073" text in the join game tab changes the port field to 23073.
He modified the "Cancel" button on the same tab to make the progress bar invisible.
He fixed the Lobby request - List index out of bounds (4) bug #54
and he also fixed the multiple too long identical names #146 bug.

In addition to this he wrote an IRC bot to for our commit log messages. But you will probably not see it :P

I did some code clean up (sounds like no work but that's not the case) and finally added the setup files and the deployment scripts (which I thought I had lost).
I also updated the deployment scripts as they had no error checking (I knew how to run them so that they worked ;D) because now that they are in our repository (and everyone can run them) they should do some checking for executables and failed copy/move operations ;).
Since I was messing around with the deployment batch scripts I also took a look the other scripts, updated them fixed and bugs too.

My plan was to use Perl for this (I read a few chapters of a Perl book to refresh my knowledge) but since the old deployment batch scripts weren't lost and my batch-fu isn't that bad I though it would be a waste to not use them.

We use upx for compressing soldatserver executables and somehow upx3.08 fails to compress soldatserver for Linux ("EOFException: premature end of file" is the error message).
I use upx 3.07 which works fine for some reason.

I tried to find out whats causing the mp3 playback bug and I guess it has something to do with fmod (we use an old version which you can't even download on the official site anymore). A smaller mp3 file which I tested worked.

FliesLikeABrick took the time to setup the build server (there were a few issues with the keys since I gave him the wrong one *cough* German Windows *cough*).
I think I'll get my login soon.

I got asked why there are registration issues (missing Soldat keys in registration emails) and sent emails to FliesLikeABrick and MM. It seems like MM is the only one who can fix that.
If you have registered and you got no key then just PM me with the name you registered and the email and you will get the key once I get in touch with MM.

There was also a config error with the static.soldat.pl subdomain but jrgp fixed it really fast.

SyavX did some theming for the Soldat installer; if he finishes it, we could use it for the next release of Soldat!
He did a nice svg file with the Soldat text which we could use too (it needs some modifications to be easier to use though).

Just a short warning: I will have no time to work on Soldat the next 4 to 5 weeks. But I hope the other devs will work on Soldat while I'm busy with other stuff.

I'd be more than happy to give updates if there was stuff actually being done. With Shoozza gone, he isn't pushing us to code and I'm kind of afraid to make certain changes without confronting him first.

He's kind of like a strict boss that you don't do things behind his back.

It looks like Shoozza may have returned. I see he committed 5 times to the svn repo since Feb 1.

But yeah, sorry for being silent. If I had real stuff to report, I would have done so. I'm not going to pull random stuff out of my ass and flat out lie to make it look like we're making drastic progress.

Shoozza isn't the only dev.

Sure, still, IMO a post "didn't do anything (big?)" is better than silence :) Not a big deal though

anyway now that he's back we have someone we can rely on again. wb Shoozza

Or better - make more progress so there actually IS something to write about. ;P
