Devlog update (2012-06-24) Vrum rum rum rum rum rummm

Hi gang!

This week saw a lot of love for the chainsaw as well as some other tweaks. Might as well start with my changes.
  • Modified chainsaw is able to fire and reload while rolling, backflipping and changing weapons
  • Modified chainsaw to deal damage in a line all along its blade instead of just at the tip
  • Fixed some hit detection issues due to bullets from certain angles being able to slink through and miss every hitbox
  • Modified spent bullet shells inherit the velocity of the player when fired
  • Plus some minor refactoring and optimizing of the hit detection code

Fry Fry is still working on some additional tweaks to hopefully make hit detection more reliable. He also helped me build some libs to test making screenshots save in PNG instead of BMP. It's a bit of an uphill struggle to get that to work since DirectX is being an ass.

Shoozza is still away on his karate tournament. But despite that he had time to commit some tweaks to make the Join Game menu resize to better scale with higher resolutions.

Finally! I am not a fan of chainsaw but this makes it more reliable.
One more fix: Chainsaw can't be fisted and dropped! I know it seems bad, but it is only fair!

Oh neat, a gameplay change. I wonder how much this will actually effect gameplay.

Glad to see another great update. I love reading these things, whether small or large. It is great seeing progress.

Yep, this chainsaw upgrade seems to be good :). Maybe law will need some upgrade as well for the saw and law servers continue to work :P

It's great to see that you guys are moving from just fixing bugs and refactoring the code to also fixing and improving gameplay.

Not really, it will probably fix some issues related to the saw, like high pingers almost having no chance to kill 0-33 (low pingers) and that is quite amazing, I think the chainsaw will get more and more popular with these updates.

So it'll be updated in the next soldat version or in a patch?

I've been sawing for 6 years, I know what I'm talking about!
Ask any experienced sawer and they'll say oh my god, I couldnt kill that 16 pinger. If you don't trust me, I've got a server on my computer if you want me to show you :P

I'm not as expierenced saw player but players from my zombie server cry about undead highpingers and asking me to decrease the ping limit cause it's imposible to kill them with saw;p

Nah, it's easier to kill with saw when you have lower ping. But when it comes to m79 highpingers are godlike. :P
