Soldat Evolved
« on: August 21, 2006, 10:41:11 pm »

by Michal Zajaczkowski

This mod replaces all of Soldat's weapons graphics. It is an upgrade from a version posted several months ago on the old forums. All the interface graphics were redone, and all of the in-game images have been replaced.

The goal of this mod is simply to create the best and most realistic looking remakes of Soldat's original weapons. I may eventually add more graphics replacements for other components of Soldat depending on how much time I have (I'm starting college in September).

The old thread (posted Sept. 11 2005 and updated a few times) can be found here, it has more, but older material.

Download and extract to your  soldat\mods  directory, add parameter  -mod EVO  to the target of your Soldat shortcut.

Enjoy  :)

Looks great man. Can you post a screen of one or two of the guns ingame (with a gostek holding it)? I'm just curious as to how much of a difference is made in that aspect too before I overwrite the modded weaps I already have. Sorry if this is a dumb request.

I'd have to say most real-looking, not best.  Considering how many great mods that are out there, it's kinda silly classifying one as simply the best. :P

It's honestly pretty hard to see, but the "teeth" of the chainsaw actually move in this mod. This was done by overlapping the optional gunflare with the regular held chainsaw, if you follow that. Pretty clever trick, even if the result isn't really so great.

Your acting like your having a duel and your opponent gets a pistol and you get a spork.
Isn't that pretty much what it is? I dunno wtf a spork is, I suppose it's way weaker than the pistol since you compared that to this.

Is it really that hard to create a shortcut to Soldat and edit the path? This page should convince you otherwise.

The mod has great shading, except I find that it is too dark. Personally, I like lighter weapons, since Soldat is typically dark anyway, and lighter weapons stand out better for. Maybe increasing the saturation of the colors or the brightness would make it work better for me.
Still, this mod has extremely sexy shading. That cannot be denied.

Michal, I know I've complained about this before, and you've explained your reasoning thoroughly, but couldn't you make an optional, larger minigun? :P The smaller minigun of this mod is just about the only thing left I don't like about it. The gross oversizedness of the original was half of what I liked about it.

I didn't say it was hard. I just said it was horrible. At least for me. I have dozens of mods, and it's just a pain to flood the desktop with useless shortcuts (after setting up every single of them).

But I use a mod selector anyway.
