I haven`t posted for a while but there`s some stuff going on in the Soldat world. First of all we have a completely new Soldat Forums. If you go on the front page you`ll see some news about the Soldat World Cup which just ended. We have a new winner!

For server admins: there is a small patch available on the server boards.

Soldat 1.5 is in beta stage for a while now. There are just some final tweaks that we need to make to prepare it for release. So I guess early 2009 we`ll have this version officialy out!

In other news: there is a super secret project that we`re doing with FliesLikeABrick and ElephantHunter. I`ll write more about this in the future, but for now let me just say the improved Soldat Forums are just the first step in the upcoming changes. I can mention three words that you can expect from this new project: community, accounts, rankings.

This should take care of the fake registration because people want their own name in the ranking system and stuff.
Some of you are sceptical to having accounts and I see why, but I'm sure it will be made in a wonderful way and will open up for new cool things, do not be afraid of this.

People, you should do the same, because it's a nice offer and you will register sooner or later.

One thing though, I hope people don't have to play lame or differently to get good rankings, like joining the best team or basecamping to get few deaths,
joining alone and just keep capping 100 times. and fight over capping the flag.
More things like: number of Multikills, fastest cap, and other things that just makes you want to OWN

And that's just what sucks about accounts. I don't want everyone to lame.
For example capture the flag. It's not about getting the best K/D. The ranking systems are about getting the best K/D. So everyone just starts chasing and playing defensive which ruins the game.
Would be cool to see who the biggest soldat addict is though.

I'm sure like many games which have accounts and ranking systems that it will have a great system to prevent things like 1 person joining a game and getting a thousand caps. I have my full faith in everyone working on it to come up with a great system sometime, in the future, possibly 1.6?

I play World of Warcraft and login to that game isn't huge thing to work on.

But one thing in the Soldat have started to piss me off. For some reason I have much fps lag on that game. It is strange to have that because my fps is whole time 500-1000 and still it lags. It's so big that I just can't play. I can't focus because everything is jumping around.

It can't be because of my computer, I have dual core 3,16gz, 6 gigabyte ram and 4850 radeon. Example World of Warcraft doesn't lag a bit with full graphics. But this Soldat... it doesn't work at all.

Well, I will not believe that accounts on this game is good idea at all. Everything in this game just seem to have only bad sides. I'm afraid of failling.

Irony is that I'm not even registered but I would consider it since from the next year Slovakia is going on Euro money and I've got a bank account so probably If I find a way to give MM money I would. Heh, I'm not playing soldat so often but I sticked with this game for a long time so it deserves some.

People with good connections and ping on most servers (like me) wouldn't really want that to happen since it would probably take a really, really long time.

It should be done onze and for all imo. instead of next soldat verson if so may be, I think it would be worth it, but I don't know HOW much it would have to say..  anyway lagg is the worst thing about soldat.

Good connection? 8MB connection isn't enough? Because that's what I have and there isn't any difference. Latency isn't going anywhere even with better connection. There may be less latency but it's still there and I really don't like it.

What about posting link to your picture or maybe little smaller image? Because that image is so annoying big that it almost make me cry. And I really don't like FPS games. Those are so simple minded. Just to aim and move as fast as possible. Nothing to compare Soldat or WoW. Too easy, too boring. So, no thanks.

Seems I have to take some of my words back. I went to their homepage and it seems that this game have something other than only shooting. You can customise your character and something other like that. Seems that they have some new ideas and you can get better gear. Little similar to War Rock isn't it? Anyway I don't have now time to test it but maybe I will do that in future.

But also seems that there is four gamemodes in this game but it's not released in Europe yet. Open beta will start tomorrow. I could at least to join it. Will see will I or not.

The special thing with soldat is the boosting and flag throwing. fpses ussualy are plain. but maybe this game is worth a shot.

It's not this simple, nor will ever be this simple for one simple reason:
Soldat utilizes UDP packet transfer ingame, and UDP packets assume that error-checking etc. is not needed, so these packets sometimes arrive malformed or not at all, though in turn pings are much lower. Now, Soldat is a really fast-paced game and using TDP which sends the packets both back and forth would increase pings a lot, though "eats" wouldn't exist as much. Do you really want NA's getting 500 ping on EU servers? I'd rather the eats even though it is pretty shitty :E
This is pretty basic and if anybody has any corrections please feel free to call me a fucking idiot!

Regardless, UDP error checking is provided by other protocols, mainly the application- Soldat itself.

The network could stand a re-working, but I personally have no complaints. It works, and for me, it works great.
I think a thanks is in order to Marcinkowski, who not only provides this game free of charge, but continues to provide "deals" such as this Christmas special ;]

Even though I already have a registered copy, I'll probably be purchasing another, just to support him.

I've asked EnEsCe about similar idea, but he said "that's Bribery. we won't accept bribes"

Concerning accounts: imo it can be brilliant, but only if done well (which is the way I think MM will do it).
And if ranking would be based on player's results compared to other players results (somehow like google page rank), I hope it wouldn't encourage people to lame.
