Petition to add this map to the official list.

Not overdone scenery and low poly count, and a lot of positive reviews. And it's already way pointed.

I need everybody's support. F12?

I wouldn't mind Jungul being a default, it's pretty nice.

I'm really happy with the new looks of most maps.
I don't understand what's with all the whine "new maps sux". Maybe I'm wrong, but I think some of you are just being old farts who refuse to see Soldat finally getting a new and better look.
As for gameplay - personally, I didn't find most changes that critical. Layout and balance of the maps are mostly the same and I'm sure that new players won't find anything wrong with these maps.

One thing I'll aggree on is that they should've been named a bit differently. They arent the same maps after all.

upd: Please consider including my improved version of inf_Warehouse in the default map list.

Are you kidding? Laos's most important places have been redone, DD2 have been ruined, its have been changed just a bit, but it's only at first look.
Why change oldschool pro maps? Make a new ones.

Because half the time we just end up playing ctf_Ash anyway.

Change is good.

Totally agree, Enesce's test server was filled with whiners switching maps every 10 seconds and complaining about how they're so incredibly horrible. Didn't get a chance to play much  >:(

Although I went :o after I saw the new laos, I think we'll get used to them :-\ ...but still:
WHY do we really need all these "changes" (actually they are no modifications for me, they're remakes)?
I mean, was the gameplay of the old maps really that bad? And who in hell cares about graphics?!? It's Soldat ffs! A small 2D-game, decades old, arcade, nostalgic and leet. 640x480!!
All this theme-based remapping (snake, rom-like statues, ...) who really cares??

All these maps - laos, lanubya, run (walk would fit better), ruins, equinox, b2b, dropdown, viet, ... - are great, really great - if someone would have posted them on forums as a remake!
But replacing the old original ones is like changing barret to awp and knife to fork: it looks different (maybe better), the use doesn't change that much but somehow it doesn't feel right.

...maybe I just played it too long...

The new maps are good, other than unnecesarrily concentrating on looks too much and adding way too many sceneries/dark backgrounds which do make the map look nice in overviews, but bad for gameplay.

I have already heard about 20 people complaining that their fps has dropped significantly in some of the new maps, maybe this is some other bug in the beta, but its quite possible that its due to all the extra sceneries in the new maps. Dark backgrounds might look cool, but for people playing anytime other than night, it becomes hard to see anything. I have no problem making the maps look good, but if doing that ends up hurting gameplay, I don't agree.

Anyways I do like the layout changes to almost all the remakes, however my main gripe has to be the extra sceneries and dark backgrounds (My own fps hasn't dropped but alot of other people's has, and that's why this has become a new concern for me).

I'm now going to say something that will most likely piss most of the 'mappers' off...

you guys should learn to play before attempting to make any of the existing maps better. I mean, you guys are a part of this community, the creative part. but that doesn't mean you have the ultimate knowledge over what is playable and what isn't. this isn't based entirely on my opinion but nobody I have talked with have liked these little changes or 'enhancements' you have made on the maps that are the most classic and notalgic part of soldat, if pursued this way, going to change too much in the game that it will erase most of what has been default in the game for soooooo long, period. perhaps you should just jump over to link-dead or whatever

Hey, where were you when I was asking for input on (what would be named) mayapan?

Nowhere?  Okay then.  Really, it's quite amazing you can bitch with such passion after the fact.  After such things have been released and open to input for months.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams it is
still a beautiful world.  Strive to be happy.

I was utterly gutted when I saw the remake of Laos. Why was it necessary?

The low system requirements (nice fps for most systems) make the game so inclusive and is probably a large reason why many people started playing the game. The older maps had stuck around because everyone still enjoyed playing them so why change them? I guess I'm biased because Laos was my favourite map but mappers are also biased in that they want to see flashy-as-possible maps instead of sticking to what has earned soldat players already.

You guys probably know more about it than me so I guess I'll trust what you go for. I wouldn't have a problem trying to make sure SCTFL and SRL don't have to use any shite default maps. I spoke to zakath about Laos briefly and he said not changing Laos as I suggested would be conservative and I should try to be constructive. Gotta admit I didn't really like that attitude.

The Dropdown remake is one that caught my attention the second I loaded it up, it is HUGE compared to the original, and in general feels like a 'dumbed down' version of Dropdown2.

95%+ of the competitive soldat community had no idea whatsoever that the default maps we had known to grow and love would be b*****dised for 1.5.1, since they don't tend to frequent these forums (and infact I have had a brief look around and nowhere have I found a topic stating that these maps were going to be replaced with their remakes).

The FPS drops may not necessarily be a mapping problem. If you're getting low FPS on new maps, try copying over old versions to 1.5.1 and see if they have low FPS too, just to make sure it's the maps causing it and not the game itself.

To link the competitive soldat's opinion with the official forums to find comparison and differences, and basically another perspective of the change of maps.

Equinox was awesome before. I loved the layout, the night theme and the whole map in every way. However, WL's remake looks like all the aspects I loved about the map were raped.
Its a sunny day instead of night.
Its a desert wasteland instead of the nocturnal forest.
Its layout was changed drastically, especially the low route. Wheres my fucking zigzag?
And more, but still, I want the old equinox back.
Possibly you could take the old version and name it Ctf_Nocturnal and keep this as it is since some people seem to like it.

I know this isn't a modified map but I think I should address this anyway. I was quite skeptical about the gameplay and introduction of this new Scorpion map. After doing some testing, I was trying to figure out how to defend the flag. Here is one way it can be quite annoying. Spraying the flag to a normal poly. This prevents the flag reaching all 3 levels. This makes it quite a bitch to get this flag, maybe worse than Death1 in terms of retrieving the flag. I was even able to spray it to the polys on the top island behind where the flag spawns where they can't spray it out of the poly back into freefall. A defender can sit all day picking off people and restricting movement of the flag easily I think.
