Are you kidding? Laos's most important places have been redone, DD2 have been ruined, its have been changed just a bit, but it's only at first look. Why change oldschool pro maps? Make a new ones.
Who should I bite by a leg then?
I'm really happy with the new looks of most maps. I don't understand what's with all the whine "new maps sux". Maybe I'm wrong, but I think some of you are just being old farts who refuse to see Soldat finally getting a new and better look. As for gameplay - personally, I didn't find most changes that critical. Layout and balance of the maps are mostly the same and I'm sure that new players won't find anything wrong with these maps. One thing I'll aggree on is that they should've been named a bit differently. They arent the same maps after all.upd: Please consider including my improved version of inf_Warehouse in the default map list.
Petition to add this map to the official list.http://forums.soldat.pl/index.php?topic=35612.0Not overdone scenery and low poly count, and a lot of positive reviews. And it's already way pointed.I need everybody's support. F12?Yes F12.
I'm now going to say something that will most likely piss most of the 'mappers' off...you guys should learn to play before attempting to make any of the existing maps better. I mean, you guys are a part of this community, the creative part. but that doesn't mean you have the ultimate knowledge over what is playable and what isn't. this isn't based entirely on my opinion but nobody I have talked with have liked these little changes or 'enhancements' you have made on the maps that are the most classic and notalgic part of soldat, if pursued this way, going to change too much in the game that it will erase most of what has been default in the game for soooooo long, period. perhaps you should just jump over to link-dead or whatever
Hey, where were you when I was asking for input on (what would be named) mayapan?Nowhere? Okay then. Really, it's quite amazing you can b***h with such passion after the fact. After such things have been released and open to input for months.
I was utterly gutted when I saw the remake of Laos. Why was it necessary? The low system requirements (nice fps for most systems) make the game so inclusive and is probably a large reason why many people started playing the game. The older maps had stuck around because everyone still enjoyed playing them so why change them? I guess I'm biased because Laos was my favourite map but mappers are also biased in that they want to see flashy-as-possible maps instead of sticking to what has earned soldat players already. You guys probably know more about it than me so I guess I'll trust what you go for. I wouldn't have a problem trying to make sure SCTFL and SRL don't have to use any s**te default maps. I spoke to zakath about Laos briefly and he said not changing Laos as I suggested would be conservative and I should try to be constructive. Gotta admit I didn't really like that attitude.
The Dropdown remake is one that caught my attention the second I loaded it up, it is HUGE compared to the original, and in general feels like a 'dumbed down' version of Dropdown2.Quote from: The Geologist on November 15, 2009, 12:25:49 amHey, where were you when I was asking for input on (what would be named) mayapan?Nowhere? After such things have been released and open to input for months.95%+ of the competitive soldat community had no idea whatsoever that the default maps we had known to grow and love would be b*****dised for 1.5.1, since they don't tend to frequent these forums (and infact I have had a brief look around and nowhere have I found a topic stating that these maps were going to be replaced with their remakes).
Houses are retarded on laos btw.
