Teambox information modification
« on: September 14, 2013, 02:33:03 pm »
Hi.

Recently I played some DMs and noticed that Teambox is quite useful only for two first lines. The third one (kills limit) makes no sense a little bit to me.
I'd suggest to make it in following format:

place / number_of_players
kills (plus_or_minus) / kills_limit
kills_deaths_ratio

I think that "handy K/D ratio caclucator" would be very useful for some players.

Now it's:

place / number_of_players
kills (plus_or_minus)
kills_limit

plus_or_minus is difference between player and the leader of a ranking.

EDIT
Or maybe make status text moddable in options?
(status text! I forgotten that's different module of interface than teambox. Sorry)

So you want to see kills_deaths_ratio added to the teambox.
I have to see if that is a good idea size wise (does it fit in there etc).
I certainly dont want to flood the game with different into texts ;)

I understand, but I just suggest this because there are a lot of scripts which counts K/D ratio for players.

I don't think it's a good idea. Your KD ratio isn't very vital information for the game and it's not difficult to approximate it by checking the scoreboard. The current status box is fine until the HUD gets a total remake.

I noticed that people are really crazy about K/D ratio.
It brings some dynamic in the game when you say !rate and show people how good you are.

I currently not convinced that we need this in the ingame gui.

Anyways here is my feedback:
place / number_of_players              <-- ok     4/10 looks good
kills (plus_or_minus) / kills_limit        <-- bad    7 (-2)/30 is confusing
kills_deaths_ratio                          <-- dunno 1.459

Actually, I find it *the* most useful information on that box.

And people are in fact crazy about K/D. If you play for some time on any ctf server like OneShots, you'll see a lot of people doing !rate. ;)

I never look at that box except in CTF, simply because all those random numbers seem so meaningless just by themself like that. If anything should be done it should be showing some actual texts describing the numbers (perhaps when you open the scoreboard, to avoid cluttering the game.

About the suggested setup:
place / players: Fine.
kills (difference) / limit: Horrible. Never saw any usefulness in knowing the difference; might as well make it kills / limit.
ratio: I've always wanted this in Soldat, just didn't know where to place it. This is an excellent position.

<Mr> yes, it allocates more electrons, so there are more electrons available for Soldat -> they are streched less and it is more fluent

It's true it's not very important in CTF but I find it super handy in DM where points actually matter.

...Showing the K/D ratio promotes statwhoring in CTF because instead of going for the objective, your ratio becomes more important. Besides it's available for players through scripts already! Maybe it could fit into the scoreboard instead.
